Coaches’ Contract

The purpose of this contract is to further reinforce our strong belief in positive reinforcement and the building up of a child’s self esteem.

As a coach representing GSYSC, I will pledge to:

  • Establish team practice times and content.
  • Create a phone chain in the event of inclement weather or an unexpected change in the schedule.
  • Help register the team’s players, where necessary.
  • Maintain the Club’s equipment in a satisfactory manner, ensuring all equipment is returned in a timely manner.
  • Become involved in Club meetings, understanding the importance of monthly attendance.  If I cannot attend, I will make sure that a representative from the team is present.  Additionally, I will consider attending coaching clinics and/or review coaching videos.
  • Demonstrate a positive coaching style, abstaining from hurtful criticism, swearing or belittling the players.  I understand that children learn by example.
  • Respect each child for what he or she can bring to the game.
  • Assure that all players receive balanced and/or fair playing time.
  • Encourage parental involvement in team and Club activities.
  • Fulfill all defined League requirements.
  • Ensure that all players have acceptable equipment (i.e., shin guards) prior to engaging in a practice or a game.  Cleats are optional, but are encouraged for travel team players.
  • Provide an environment that encourages good sportsmanship – for both the players and parents.
  • Share ideas and coaching tips with other Club coaches.
  • Develop team players, with experience in playing multiple positions.  This is especially key for U14 players and younger.
  • Ensure the proper conduct of the spectators for our team.
  • Set a good example of sportsmanship – in practice and at the games.
